WSA-Rwanda to host African Writers Conference 2024

Writers Space Africa-Rwanda (WSA-R) is set to host the seventh edition of the African Writers Conference (AWC 2024) in Kigali from October 22 to 27.

The annual event brings together writers, readers, publishers, and other creatives to celebrate African literature and culture. This year, the conference will be held under the theme, “The Role of African Children’s Literature in Shaping the Youth.”

Previous conferences were held in Nigeria, Kenya, Zambia, Tanzania, Cameroon, and Ghana.

This year, attendees will have the opportunity to delve into the dynamic African literary landscape, with a special focus on Rwanda, and forge connections with fellow enthusiasts.

The conference will feature guided tours, creative writing workshops, panel discussions, a book exhibition, and a meet-and-greet event with award-winning authors, editors, and literary agents.

The high point of the conference is the African Writers Awards ceremony, which recognises and celebrates the very best in African literature.

Speaking about the opportunity to host the conference, Patrick Nzabonimpa, the Country Coordinator of WSA-R, said, “We are thrilled to host this conference for the first time in Rwanda. We look forward to welcoming writers, publishers, and literary enthusiasts to the vibrant city of Kigali, showcasing the rich offerings of Rwandan writers. We remain committed to promoting creative writing and the culture of reading in our country.”

African Writers Conference is an initiative by Writers Space Foundation, a not-for-profit organization that empowers African writers and promotes African literature to a global audience. It was launched in 2018.
