Two members of Writers Space Africa–Rwanda (WSA–Rwanda), Lise Nova Berwadushime and Judence Kayitesi, were recognized at the Women Book Awards 2026, held on March 6.
Organized by Arise Education and partners, the awards celebrate women who are transforming Rwanda’s book ecosystem and shaping the future of literature, literacy, and knowledge sharing in the country.
The awarding ceremony held at Rwanda Education Board (REB) Headquarters brought together authors, publishers, literacy champions, diplomats, and partners who gathered to honor women making significant contributions to the literary space.

During the event, Berwadushime received the Emerging Talent Award, recognizing her growing impact as a writer and her contribution to Rwanda’s literary scene. Kayitesi was presented with the Woman in Publishing Leader Award, acknowledging her leadership and dedication to promoting books, literacy, and storytelling.
Speaking after receiving the award, Kayitesi expressed gratitude to those who supported her journey.
“My sincere thanks go to everyone who nominated me and believed in my work. Thank you to the judges for this recognition and to the founder Mutesi Gasana for creating a platform that celebrates women in literature and publishing,” she wrote.
She added that the recognition represents more than a personal achievement.
“This award is not only for me but also for every reader, writer, and young person who believes in the power of stories to heal, educate, and unite us. I will continue working to promote literacy, storytelling, and unity through my books and through Inzozi Publisher.”

For Berwadushime, the recognition marks an important milestone in her writing journey.
“This award is a good start and motivates me to keep learning so I can write better work that is meaningful and timeless. The bar has been raised high, and I must keep advancing. This is my first award, and I will never forget it as the one that made me an award-winning author.”

Commenting on the achievement, Patrick Nzabonimpa, WSA–Rwanda Country Coordinator, congratulated the winners and noted the significance of the recognition for the community of writers.
“We are proud to see our members recognized for their dedication to literature and publishing. Their achievements reflect the strength and creativity of the Writers Space Africa–Rwanda community. Such recognition encourages more writers, especially women, to continue telling meaningful stories that contribute to Rwanda’s literary growth.”
The Women Book Awards aim to highlight the work of women who are strengthening Rwanda’s literary culture through writing, publishing, and literacy advocacy.
By recognizing such contributions, the initiative encourages more women and young people to participate in storytelling and knowledge sharing.
The recognition of Berwadushime and Kayitesi reflects the growing influence of WSA–Rwanda members in shaping Rwanda’s literary and publishing landscape.
