The Rwandan chapter of Writers Space Africa (WSA-R) marked a significant milestone on May 21, 2023, as they celebrated their third anniversary.
While their actual birthday falls on April 24, the community chose to commemorate this occasion officially on the aforementioned date.
Founded in April 2020 during the initial Covid-19 lockdown in Rwanda, WSA-R has since become a thriving community of Rwandan writers dedicated to improving their skills, establishing networks, and fostering collaboration.
At its core, WSA-R endeavours to promote creative writing and cultivate a culture of reading in Rwanda. The community achieves this by providing learning platforms to writers and bridging the gap between the art of writing and other diverse forms of art.
To commemorate their third anniversary, the community organised a celebration event at Love Center in Nyabisindu, Kigali City. The occasion was marked by an atmosphere of joy and camaraderie as members of the community, along with special guests, came together to honour their shared journey.
Patrick Nzabonimpa, also known as Tom, the Founder and Country Coordinator of WSA-R, expressed his gratitude and emphasised the significance of the occasion, stating, “Today, we are celebrating three years of becoming a family, enhancing our skills, overcoming challenges together, and remaining united in our mission to promote creative writing in Rwanda.”
The event also featured captivating performances of poetry in various languages, including English, Kinyarwanda, and French. Poems encompassed a wide range of themes, such as love, heartbreak, community, and the human experience. This diverse expression of emotions and ideas showcased the immense talent and creativity of the writers within the WSA-R community.
As WSA-R celebrated its third anniversary, the occasion served as a reminder of the collective strength and resilience of the community.
Looking ahead, the community remains steadfast in its belief in the power of collaboration and the potential of Rwandan writers and poets.
